Gospel Reflection: The Essence Of It All

Mt 22:34-40

"When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,
they gathered together, and one of them,
a scholar of the law tested him by asking,
"Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?"
He said to him,
"You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

The Essence of It All

When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus really cuts to the chase, doesn't He? No long lectures, just plain and pure: Love. Love God, love your neighbor. Everything else is built on this foundation.

More Than Just Feelings

Love isn't just about the warm fuzzies, as you and I well know. It's also the tough choices, the sleepless nights, and the quiet moments when we hold our parent's hands. Love is action. And as Catholic Daughters, every little thing we do is love in its most active form.

Neighborly Love Begins at Home

When Jesus speaks of loving our neighbors, I can't help but think about our aging parents. Aren't they our closest 'neighbors' in a way? We live out this Gospel teaching daily by tending to their needs, listening to their stories, or simply being present.

This Week

As you navigate the highs and lows of being a Catholic Daughter this week, maybe pause and think: "Is this action, this choice, this word, rooted in love?" It's a beautiful barometer to have.

This Gospel reminds us that the call to love is at the core of our faith and our Catholic Daughter vocation. It's as pure and as challenging as that. So, here's to another week of love-led choices!
